Tip 1: turn off the screen

You know one of the most effective ways to conserve battery life is to reduce the display brightness of the screen? Its been known that reducing the level of screen brightness to produce more than 10 minutes battery life. You can do this by going to Start> Settings> Control Panel> Display and clicking the Settings tab. You can also disable the cool effects like ClearType fonts and fade effects to reduce consumption CPU power.

Tip 2: Decrease disk activity

You can also optimize the Windows paging file "– the area of portable hard drive that serves as virtual memory when RAM is full. Optimizing the paging file size of your hard drive ensures accessed less frequently when memory is exhausted the system. To change this, go to Control Panel> System> Advanced> Performance Settings> Advanced> Virtual memory change. Set both the initial and maximum size of the paging file to 1.5 times the capacity of installed RAM size.

Its portable hard drive to eat is another culprit. To save energy, reduce the frequency with which the hard disk has to spin. This can be try defragmenting your hard drive regularly. This can be done using the disk Degfragmenter in the Start> Programs> Accessories> System Tools menu.

Tip 3: Battery status

One thing you remember about the portable battery. You have to condition it. When buying your laptop, charge the battery to 100 percent and then fully discharge. Then loaded to 100 percent. This is not an exercise in futility – That the "conditions" of the battery and helps you remember the exact amount of electrical charge that can hold. After doing that, you never have to fully discharge the battery again.

Tip 4: Disable Startup Items

Here's another tip. Disable your startup items unnecessary! I find it very annoying when my laptop boots and I have to wait about 20 seconds for every bit small program to load into memory. You can disable the startup programs. Go to the associated programs and click the Options or Preferences menu to do so. You can also go to the Startup tab in the Start menu and programs clearly do not want run at startup.

Tip 5: Turn off unused equipment

And here's another tip for you. As you know, many laptops modern have a Wi-Fi built in. Unknown to many, that the Wi-Fi is a power guzzler! Sure to turn off the Wi-Fi to the outside Wi-Fi on and off. If your laptop does not provide that change, you should go to Control Panel> System> Hardware> Device Manager and disable the transmitter-receiver infrared, Ethernet adapter and the Bluetooth radio.
Conclusion

I hope this article has shown you some good advice on conservation of laptop battery life. Follow these tips so that next time you are drinking coffee at Starbucks, you have plenty of time to the battery on your laptop to surf and work. Until next time, happy computing!

Gigabit Ethernet

I am looking for a Wireless N router with Gigabit Ethernet, modem, ADSL2, and can have a USB hard drive?

It seems a difficult task, but I'm willing bet there is! I could live without the USB hard drive capacity, but would be nice … Recommendations accepted!

Cisco has a doubt, capable of withstanding wireless GigE and options for ADSL2. Watch cisco.com> Products> routers. The 1800, 2800, 3800 class routers. 802.11N is not a standard yet, so Cisco "can not" provide a draft 802.11n WIC card yet. Not sure what you want with the USB hard drive? Most routers have ports Used for USB flash drives. The aim is to get the new operating system on the router or load a configuration on the router or router to access debugging information. For network attached storage, need to be sought with external drives "Ethernet" interfaces, no USB. That there is called a storage area network (SAN), but the team currently on the market is not cheap. Question – if you have an ADSL2 uplink Why GigE? ADSL2 is the bottleneck in this equation.

Wireless Network
How do you set up your wireless network to require login before the Internet can be accessed on it?

How can I set up my wireless network so that a username and password, or a simple login button being pressed is required before the Internet can be accessed on it? I’ve seen it at On the Border and most hotels, and I am wondering how I can do it with my own wireless network.

Thanks!
Blake

That different from what you can do at home. On those sites, you’re logging onto some authentication server that checks your status as a paying customer.

At home, you set up WPA or WEP encryption on your router, and each device that connects must provide the proper key before the connection is authorized. Usually, you only have to provide the key one time, and future logins are automatic. But it protects your network from intruders and encrypts the data so people can’t sniff it.

To straighten the cables and wires behind your computer desk or home entertainment system, then you need an organizer of the cord. This product can be an effective way to make cable management and not have to cost much and can be very useful. The right product is inexpensive and you should be able install in seconds. Try to find a cable management product that has no small parts that can break down over time or conduct. The ultimate goal is simply get your cables organized and spaced so that it can not become entangled.

Many times people try to reach their own cable management system, for example, wires hanging from hooks or tape. These solutions can last for a short period of time, but usually do not last long. Even through the use of hooks or tape, you will find that there are still going to be balls and other issues. Since the organizers of the bone are not as expensive, actually saves time in the long term simply buy something that has already been invented. No need to reinvent the wheel when the solutions currently available are very profitable in the first place.

It never a good idea to ignore the mess of cables that get tangled as you can actually cause a security risk. A tangle of electrical wires are sometimes referred to like an octopus and this could cause a fire with time. If you have an office building, you must meet the standards of fire to be legal. You can also run the risk someone traveling through wires and is injured. Young children are especially susceptible to such accidents. A very low cost you can avoid these types of accidents.

In trying to find an effective organizer of the bone, does not feel like you need to spend a lot of money. There are many different products out there and usually do not cost much. Try to find something that is simple too. There are some over-complicated products out there that have small parts that are only going to get broken at some point anyway. A good product does not depend on a trick and will last a lifetime. Other products simply can not do the job. You can group all the wires together and ultimately defeat the purpose.

When you invest in a cable management system, you will spend much less time to add or remove devices connected to your computer or home entertainment system. As things stand, they may fear having to switch to one device to another, as it may be a trouble a long time. When using an organizer of the bone change of a device will take a few seconds. Nothing will unravel and you will have to follow each string to see which device belongs to when you purchase one of the organizers and those who offer http://www.tidyline.com. With a cable system organized and not afraid to change a product of the other, and you will be safe from accidents.

Network Interface

Network Interface

In the late 1960’s as large college universities and several research labs gained an ever increasing amount of computers, the need for interconnections that worked at high-speed was great, and the pressure was on. It was not until the mid 1970’s that an answer to the demand was created, they called it LAN.

LAN stands for Local-Area Network, with the ability to cover small areas, such as a home or office or group of buildings (schools, warehouse, etc.), LANs have higher data-transfer rates, smaller range and do not require licensed telecommunication lines as opposed to WAN (Wide-Area Network). ARCNET and Token Ring were two LANs that were widely used in the past. Ethernet and Wi-Fi are two of today’s most common LANs.

A LAN is an important component to gamers. By setting up a LAN, gamers can link together their computers and play with or against their friends. Games, such as “Diablo II” and “S.O.C.O.M.”, allows gamers to cooperate together in a team while either on line or while their computers are connected by LAN.Games, such as “Unreal Tournament” and “Starcraft”, allow gamers connected by the internet or a LAN to work as a team or to compete against each other.computers are usually linked by what is known as a Cat-5 cable to a HUB; and the HUB acts like a mediator. The Cat-5 cable connects to the back of the computer through the Ethernet port on the Network card, network adapter, LAN adapter or NIC (Network Interface Card). A network card operates on both the physical layer and the data link layer; it allows a low-level addressing system, using Mac Addresses, also known as an IP address, and physical access to the networking medium (the HUB). Not all LANs are the same; some use cables while others are wireless.

While other network technology exists, since the mid 1990’s, the Ethernet network card has been leading the crowd, due to low cost and easy integration and use. A unique 48-bit serial number is on every Ethernet network card, stored in the ROM; the serial number is your computers Mac address. The Mac address for every computer must be unique; otherwise only one computer with a given Mac address could be on line and connected to the LAN at a time. The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers is responsible for each unique Mac address getting assigned to vendors of interface controllers; this is so no two network cards share the same Mac address.

At one point network cards were expansion cards that had to be plugged into the motherboard. Most new computers have the network card built into the motherboard; some may even have two ports built in so the computer can be connected to multiple networks. Some companies have started using optical fiber instead of Cat-5 cables or USB cords, because optical fiber is immune to electromagnetic interference. Optical fibers are made of glass or plastic, instead of metal, and carry light along their full length. The electrical signals sent along the optical fiber degrade less during transfer than signals sent along metal wires (Cat-5 cables and USB cords).

What should I know before you register a domain name?

I was thinking of registering a domain name, and wanted to know what kind of things you should know before proceeding. I know XHTML, CSS, and some Java Script, but apart from the site should really know any encryption or practice security? There is also some domain registrars you recommend? Perhaps one that includes accommodation, or vice versa.

I recommend one of these: http://www.webhostingtable.com/ Powweb currently has the best deal. Standard price is $ 7.77/month ($ 93.24/year), but have to sell the 50% now. Disk space: Unlimited Bandwidth: Unlimited domain names Unlimited domains and subdomains Price: $ 3.88/month ($ 46.56/year) Your hosting plan includes site builder, so you can create your site with only drag and drop (no programming), or you could install Wordpress (easy, click install from your control panel), choose a theme you like, and start adding content. Or since you know XHTML and CSS you can build the site itself. As for the security work is your host. They are responsible for the safety of servers.

Network Switch

There are several large network hardware vendors out there, and it can often be confusing to decide which brand to buy.  Do you want a Cisco router, a Juniper router, or a Nortel router?  What brand network switch or sever should your company purchase? Each specific company provides a huge amount of detail/advertising on why you should pick their solution.  I decided to congeal some of these product details and provide an overall list of features that  your company should be looking for in their enterprise networking hardware.

No matter what type of business vertical you are in, or where you are running your company from, networking hardware is a critical aspect of your business.  The five key features your network hardware and network infrastructure should provide  are:

  • Simplicity: A network product and OS that is extremely simple, logical, and easy to operate will make everyone’s life easier.  Network hardware that is simple in installation and execution, but provides the infrastructure for complex company communication, is a must have.
  • Security: Your enterprise data is your company’s most valuable resource.  Whether it be client data, financial data, or intellectual property data, it is extremely important that your network provides the protection and access control for this data.  Your brand of Network hardware can mean the difference between an occasional  security breach and a perfect record of protection.
  • Speed: It is vital that your enterprise network is running at the speed of your business.  It should never hinder your company’s work flow, whether it be accessing data within your company’s network or at global access level.  The network equipment that you utilize is the engine that runs your entire company’s network infrastructure.
  • Scalability: It is very important that your network be scalable with your company’s growth and downsizing.  A network that is not scalable can incur unnecessary cost for your company and unwanted hardship on enterprise efficiency.    Scalability means a network infrastructure that offers open source flexibility- the ability for your company to not be locked-in to one specific solution, but instead posses the capability to utilize the best market technology available.
  • Savings: Maintaining a network infrastructure can often be a very costly process, and can tip a company’s earnings in one direction or the other.  Finding network hardware that is both cheap and reliable is quite the difficult task.  Depending on where you look, buying a used cisco router or refurbished cisco switch can sometimes mean the difference in simplicity, security, speed AND scalability.  However, it is equally as important that you don’t break the bank building up your company’s network infrastructure.  The key is to find a reliable network hardware vendor- whether it be a used network hardware reseller or a direct seller, make sure that they are clear-cut and trustworthy.

Beyond this list, there are basic consumer guidelines that you should follow when purchasing network hardware.  One of these components is a vendor’s warranty- make sure they clearly state that they offer a warranty on your network hardware purchase so that if your requirements change, you don’t end up paying the cost.

Toner Refill
How can i refill a samsung mlt-108 laser printer cartridge i have the toner i just don’t know were to make the?

hole in the cartridge. please help, it is empty.

I could not find refill instructions for the specific model you have but the site in the link below has info about all different types of laser cartridges and perhaps one is similar to yours. If so it may be filled the same way. It also seems that some toner cartridges don’t work with refills unless they are reset with a re-setter. I’m inkjet owner so my refilling knowledge is more in the inkjet area so the link is about the best I can do.
